L'Epée | Golden Boy
Created in collaboration with L’Epée, The Unnamed Society presents Golden Boy, the second piece in its The Art of Gifting collection. In 2019, it unveiled Pancho Villa, a piece inspired by the Colt Bisley.
A faithful reinterpretation of the legendary and iconic repeating rifle, Golden Boy takes the form of a table clock, its loading and cocking mechanism having been redesigned to wind the watch calibre and set the time.
This exceptional piece not only tells the time, but fires our imagination and takes us to where the buffalo once roamed, where brave men and women took on the unknown, stood their ground and built a new world...
The creative process was never about simply fitting a calibre into a gun. Rethinking the ingenious repeating mechanism of the original rifle into a calibre was an irresistible challenge. The result is a feat of engineering that transcends its function to become a true work of art, true to the DNA of The Unnamed Society.
What made the lever action repeating rifle such a game-changer back in the day was the revolutionary approach to loading ammunition, cocking the hammer and chambering the bullet in one rapid, fluid motion – with a lever actioned by the trigger hand. Able to hold 15 rounds before having to reload, the original was not only much more practical than a single-shot rifle, but also allowed for excellent handling and accuracy without any significant training.
L’Epée captures this defining movement of the hand as it loads the round and prepares the gun for firing: by having the clock mechanism wound – “loaded” – in exactly the same way. By actioning the lever 15 times – as if loading 15 bullets one after the other – the mechanism is fully wound for a seven-day power reserve.
Weighing in at 3kg, Golden Boy comes in a variety of designs where colours, engravings and the selection of exotic woods for the stock can vary.
