Omega | ClearSpace

Omega has teamed up with the ClearSpace start-up in a pioneering mission to clean and eliminate projectiles in space. Having created the first timepiece to reach the moon, the watch company is preparing to return to space to take part in a unique and highly important clearance mission.

It will take part in the first de-orbiting, a controlled entry into the atmosphere of a wandering satellite element, serving as a launch pad for many other long-term projects. The avowed ambition is to pave the way for new affordable in-orbit cleaning services.

Today there are thousands of satellites orbiting Earth, a huge percentage of them “failed”. These uncontrollable objects present risks of explosions or collisions with other satellites. Humankind’s next big challenge is keeping space clean in order to ensure sustainable growth in the future.
