Omega | Beijing 2022 Olympics
From 4 to 20 February this year, Omega served as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games in Beijing. Omega’s mission was to crystallise the dreams of the world’s finest athletes as they competed to make history.
The Beijing Games also marked the 30th time since 1932 that the brand has acted as Official Timekeeper. For 90 years, Omega has been developing new technologies that redefine disciplines and results.
The Beijing edition was no exception. With its 300 or so timekeepers and 200 tonnes of equipment, Omega Timing brought with it technological advances that have revolutionised the experience of athletes, coaches, judges and spectators alike. These included jump analysis in figure skating, a false start detection in speed skating and an in-game display for ice hockey. All of these innovations have been added to proven existing technologies.
In a nutshell, the Beijing Games consisted of 109 events in seven sports, including the arrival of the monobob – the counterpart of the bobsleigh, but manoeuvred by a single person – which aroused a great deal of enthusiasm, particularly for Omega, which has played a major role in the development of the discipline since 2011.
