COMPLICATIONS

Mechanical watches with complications provide one or more indications in addition to the hours, minutes and seconds. Several dozen complications exist, the commonest being calendars and chronographs. Striking watches are also well-known. They strike the hour, the half or the quarters on demand.

The complicated watch was born at a time when man had not yet learned to use electricity. Information concerning time, astronomy, calendar and useful functions was managed by complicated mechanical watches. Nowadays, complications exemplify the feats of the watchmaker’s art and highlight the extreme technical mastery used in their manufacture.
